There are several stains across the bottom of p.159 and p.163, seemingly caused by water making the ink of the letter run, and multiple ink blots across p.160-161.

There is a minor correction to l.5 of p.160 and l.3 of p.163 in the form of corrected text being written over the top of incorrect text. A footnote justifying a statement made in the letter has been added to the bottom of p.162. This note is linked to the main text through the used of a corresponding symbol. Part of l.4-5 of p.163 and l.6-7 of p.164 have been underlined. The final two lines of p.166 have been added in Voltaire’s hand. A third hand has endorsed the MS as ‘No.65*’ in the upper left-hand corner of p.159. The same hand has also added a bibliographical reference to the bottom of p.159.
