Additional Comments:

The letter was sealed using the ‘Tuck-and-Seal’ method before sending. The paper was additionally folded to create a left-hand margin on both the recto and verso sides. There is an ink blot in the left-hand margin of f.1r. The letter was sealed using a sealing wafer, extant on f.2r, that has caused some damage to f.2. This damage has been repaired with paper. A stain to the right-hand side of f.2v might indicate the former presence of a pin. There is water damage to the left-hand side of the seal on f.2r.

Decorations:

Undecorated

Additions:

A mathematical sum has been added in the lower portion of f.2r. Voltaire as signed the letter as ‘le vieux malade des alpes V’. Wagnière has included a postscript after Voltaire’s signature. A Geneva postmark has been stamped above the address on f.2v.
