Provenance:
The letter was given by Servan’s brother to the canon of the cathedral of Lyon in 1818. Passed at the Fossé-Darcosse sale in Paris on 20 April 1840 (Lot. 506) when it was inserted into an 1809 edition of Théâtre de Voltaire. The letter was then bought by Holloway before passing at the John Young sale in London on 26 April 1869 (Lot. 985). Passed at the Sotheby’s sale on 30 June 2020 (Lot. 20) where it sold for €2,000.
