The paper is watermarked with a shield bearing a post horn. Beneath the shield are the names ‘D&C Blauw’.

Additional Comments:

The letter was sealed using the ‘Tuck, Fold, and Seal’ method before sending. The wax seal is extant on f.2v and has caused some damage to the same. Several attempts have been made to repair the damage to f.2 with paper. There are several pin holes along the central bifolium fold line, suggesting that the letter may have been part of a bound collection at one time. There is a small tear to the right-hand side of f.1r, and staining throughout.

Decorations:

Undecorated

Additions:

The library stamp of Campori has been added to the upper right-hand corner of f.1r. A second hand has endorsed the MS as ‘lettre de Mr de voltaire’ at the top of f.1r, and another hand has endorsed the MS as ‘No. 61’ in the same place.
