A second hand has endorsed the MS as ‘No.80’ in the upper left-hand corner of p.149. The same hand has also added a bibliographical reference to the bottom of p.149. A third hand has added a provenance note to the bottom of p.149 that claims that the letter is the original, written in the hand of one of Voltaire’s secretaries. This copy is not, however, in the hand of any known secretary. There are two minor corrections to the end of l.7 and l.9 in the form of crossings out with the addition of corrected text superscript.
