The paper is watermarked with a shield bearing a post horn. Beneath the shield is the name ‘Van der Ley’.

Additional Comments:

The MS has been folded into four (since unfolded). There is a smudge of ink between l.11 and l.12 on f.109r and some minor pale staining in the left-hand margin of f.109r. There is a small blob of wax at the bottom of l.111r and minor ink transfer from facing pages throughout.

The MS has been endorsed as ‘No. 48’ in the upper left-hand corner of f.109r. There are several minor corrections throughout in the form of corrected text being written over the top of incorrect text, crossings out, and the inclusion of omitted text superscript. Select words and phrases have been underlined on f.110v-f.111r. Voltaire has paginated f.110v and f.11r as ‘4’ and ‘5’ respectively.
