The MS consists of five fascicules bound together and was submitted to the censor, Crébillon by the comédiens in 1761. His official approval is noted on the verso of the final leaf: ‘Jay lu par ordre de Monsieur le Lieutenant Général de Police l’Ecueil du Sage et je crois que l’on peut en permettre la représentation. Ce 26 9bre 1761. Crébillon. Vû L’aprobation Permis de representer ce 28 9bre 1761. de Sartine.’

The MS consists of five fascicules arranged as follows:
Act I: 6 sheets folded to create 12 leaves, paginated 1-26. Leaves 4-5 were removed and replaced with two separate leaves in another hand. This section is endorsed as ‘Le Role de Maturin’.
Act II: 6 sheets folded to created 12 leaves, paginated 1-22. Leaf 3 was removed and a note was added to the stub reading: ‘a lais[ser] blanc’. Leaf 12 has been partially removed and folded over.
Act III: 8 sheets folded to form 14 leaves, paginated 1-27. Leaf 6 has been removed and replaced
Act IV: 7 sheets folded to create 14 leaves, paginated 1-27. Slips bearing additional text have been attached to p.17.
Act V: 6 sheets folded to create 12 leaves, paginated 1-22. Leaf 12 has been removed. Slips bearing additional text have been added to p.9 and p.20.
There is an ink blot in the upper right-hand corner of the title page for Act I. There are several small tears throughout, especially where the fascicules have been sewn together. There is foxing throughout Act II and several ink blots on p.22 of the same. There is also foxing throughout Act III, a stain to the left-hand margin of p.7, and ink spatters in the left-hand margin of p.14 of the same. There are several ink blots to p.1 of Act IV and stains to the lower edges of p.5 and p.20 and the right-hand sides of p.23 and p.25 of the same. There is an ink blot along the lower edge of p.14-15 of Act V.
There are numerous corrections throughout in the form of crossings out, crossings out with corrected text added superscript, and the addition of omitted text superscript. In some instances, several lines to whole pages have been redacted. Crosses have been added the the margins of p.7 of Act 1, p.2-5 of Act II. Marginal notes and remarks for production such as ‘bon’ or ‘à changer’ have been added throughout. There is a longer marginal note on p.21 of Act III and additional scraps of paper with significant revisions have been affixed to p.17 of Act 4 and p.18 and p.20 of Act 5. They appear to have been affixed with red wax. Brackets and braces have also been drawn around select passages throughout, such as on p.10 of Act II.
