Copy of ‘Mémoires pour servir à la vie de Monsieur de Voltaire’.
Detailed Summary:
The text of this MS is close to the clandestine editions of the text produced in 1784. Marginal notes restore the text to the original version (CMV37555). The MS is part of a bound collection known to have been used by the Kehl editors.
Part of a bound volume of Voltaire’s works. Half-binding covers.
Additional Comments:
The text is contained within a pencil frame on each page. There is some minor foxing throughout. There is some ink transference from marginal notes on the facing page throughout and a stain at the top of f.180v and in the lower right-hand corner of f.196v.
There are several minor corrections throughout in the form of crossings out and the addition of omitted text superscript. Marginal notes have been added in the left-hand margins throughout. These are linked to the main text through the use of corresponding letters and numbers. One such note on f.129r has been smudged. Red lines have been drawn beside select passages of the text, and a bracket has been added to l.3 of f.137r. A scrap of paper providing supplementary material has been affixed to f.148v. Pin holes in the right-hand margin of f.148r suggest that the scrap may previously have been pinned in place. Two later hands have added notes to f.203-206r detailing the corrections made to the text.
