Detailed Summary:

The MS is bound with three other texts by Voltaire which once formed part of the Boissy d’Anglas album. These texts are:

  • (a) a letter in verse to Algarotti and a letter to the comte d’Argental
  • (b) Poème sur le désastre de Lisbonne
  • (c) Bababec et les fakirs / Lettre d’un Turc.

The majority of the MS has been written in a hand likely to be that of Longchamp. The slips pasted in at f.1v and f.4r are likely written in Voltaire’s hand, as are the lengthy addition on f.6r and a series of corrections found throughout. The first paragraph of the slip at f.1r, however, is written in a third, unknown hand.
