Additional Comments:

The letter was sealed using the ‘Tuck, Fold, and Seal’ method. The wafer seal is extant on f.2v and has caused some damage to the same. The MS has also been folded to create left-hand margins on both the recto and verso sides. Ink from the facing page has transferred onto the left-hand side of f.2r. The iron gall ink used to write the letter has begun to cause some corrosion of the paper.

Decorations:

Undecorated

Additions:

The first sentence is written in Voltaire’s hand, with the remainder of the letter being in Wagnière’s hand. There is a minor correction to l.14 on f.1r in the form of corrected text being written over the top of incorrect text. Several postmarks have been added over the address panel on f.2v.
