The letter is accompanied by its envelope, sealed with red wax. The seal depicts a male head in profile. There is a stain to the right-hand side of f.2r caused by red wax, likely that used to seal the envelope. Ink from the facing pages have transferred onto f.1v and f.2r.

The end of l.12 on f.1r has been underlined. There is a minor correction to l.15 of the same in the form of corrected text being written both over the top of incorrect text and superscript. This correction is in Voltaire’s hand. Voltaire has also made an addition to l.9 of f.1v and concluded the letter on f.2r in his own hand. Several post marks have been added to the envelope.
