A later hand has dated the MS to June 1753. Besterman, however, suggests that the letter instead predates D5306 and so should be dated to May instead.

There is an ink blot in the lower left-hand corner of f.37r, two further ink blots at the top of f.37v, and an ink splatter in the upper left-hand corner of f.38v. The upper left-hand corner of f.37r and f.38r, and the right-hand corner of f.38r have been torn away. There is further tearing to the upper right-hand corner of f.37r, and the right-hand side of f.38r. The MS was locked before sending and so features on horizontal fold line, three vertical fold lines, and a diagonal fold line at each corner. There are several small holes along these fold lines, especially along the horizontal one.
