Additional Comments:

A small tab of paper has been affixed to f.5v with wax. A second hand has added a note to this paper reading ‘Passage inédit’. A comparable remnant of wax, to which is stuck some paper, appears on the right-hand side of f.4r, suggesting that a second tab was once affixed here too. There is an ink blot in the left-hand margin of f.4v and a tear to the lower portion of the central bifolium fold line. The MS features a vertical fold line down along the centre of each page, and there is some ink transfer from another document on the lower portion of f.5v.

Decorations:

Undecorated

Additions:

The library stamp of De Cayrol has been added to the top of f.4r. Part of l.16 on f.4v and l.5 of f.5r have been underlined and there is a minor correction to the first word of l.14 of f.5r in the form of a crossing out. Voltaire appears either to have changed his pen, or returned to the letter at a later stage as his writing becomes finer and neater from the bottom of f.5r onward. A bracket has been placed around the text to which the additional tab of paper refers on f.5v.
