The manuscript is enclosed in a white cardboard folder stamped with the details of J. Vidal-Mégret. It is stuck to a second piece of card, along with a signed note from Etienne Charavay dated 30 August 1874 certifying that the letter is autograph. An excerpt from a sales catalogue has been stuck underneath the manuscript.
