Detailed Summary:
This copy of the poem appears in a recueil compiled by Cideville in 1760. A note appended to the poem reads: ‘Mr de Voltaire avait fait, je ne me souviens plus de l’àpropos, ces vers contre eux [les jésuites]’. A variation on the poem was later printed in the Mémoires secrets under the date of 17 May 1762.
