The paper is watermarked with a shield bearing a post horn, topped with a crown. Beneath the shield are the names ‘J Honig & Zoon’

The MS was sealed using the ‘Tuck-and-Seal’ method. The wax seal is no longer extant on f.2v and has caused some damage to the same. The paper was also folded to create a left-hand margin on both the recto and verso sides. Some ink from f.1v has transferred onto f.2r. There is a black stain at the top of f.2v.

The final two lines of the letter are added in Voltaire’s hand. There is a minor correction to the second word of l.5 on f.1r in the form of corrected text being written over the top of incorrect text.
