The paper is watermarked with an indistinguishable image contained within a circle. There is text beneath the image, but this is also indistinguishable.

The letter was sealed using the ‘Tuck, Fold, and Seal’ method. There is some discolouration to the outer edges of the MS, suggesting that a smaller document was stored on top of it. The MS is sealed with black wax and the seal is extant on the right-hand side of f.2v. The seal has caused some damage to the left-hand side of the same. The lower corner of the MS has been dog-eared and there are several ink blots throughout.
Passed at the Liepmannsohn sale in Berlin c.1905 (Lot. 414) before passing into the ownership of L.G. Hawkins. Passed again at the Sotheby sale in London on 1 July 1975 (Lot. 180).
