The paper is watermarked with a shield bearing a post horn, topped with a crown. Beneath the shield are the initials ‘GR’.

Additional Comments:
The letter was sealed using the ‘Tuck, Fold, and Seal’ method. The wax seal is no longer extant but has caused some damage to f.2, possibly resulting in the loss of Voltaire’s signature. There is further tearing to the right-hand side of f.1. The paper has also been folded to create a left-hand margin on both the recto and verso sides. There is an ink blot between l.6 and l.7 of f.1r, and to the right of the address on f.2v.
