Detailed Summary:
Voltaire begins by saying that he has not heard from the comtesse, neither from the Marquis Scipio Maffei nor of his Mérope. He adds that he will come to visit her as soon as his health allows him to leave the house, and notes that the comtesse has known for a long time of his ambitions. Voltaire concludes by saying that though he has been unfortunate so far, he hopes that his perseverance will be rewarded.
There is a wax seal on f.1v which has caused some damage to the same. The paper features four vertical fold lines and three horizontal fold lines. There are several small holes along the fold lines, and four small pin holes in the lower left-hand corner of f.1r. There are two small ink stains at the bottom of f.1r.
Three postage stamps, including one for Rouen, have been stamped on f. 1v. There is a correction in the form of a crossing out with corrected text written underneath on l.3 of f.1r. Some provenance notes detailing the original document reproduced in this copy have been added to the top of f.1r.
