A second, unknown hand has added four notes to the MS. The first is the number ’34’ which has been crossed out. The second is the Roman numeral ‘I’. The third is the number ‘3’. The fourth is the phrase ‘Lettre de mr [deletion: arrouet] de Voltaire a mr labée de Chaulieu’.

Passed at the Solar sale in Paris scheduled for 26 February 1861 (Lot 3439). The sale actually took place on 13 April 1861. Bought by Laverdet, then passed at the Gilbert sale organised by Charavay in Paris on 7 December 1865 (Lot. 119).
