Notes:

The manuscript is a prose translation into French of selected passages from Book IV of the Aeneid. This book, often referred to as The Fate of Queen Dido, recounts the tragic love affair between Aeneas and Dido, shaped by the interventions of figures such as Juno, Iarbas, Jupiter and Mercury. The story ends in heartbreak: Dido takes his own life, while Aeneas, reminded of his duty, departs to fulfil his destiny of founding a city in Italy.
