Autograph letter signed from Cosimo Alessandro Collini to Sébastien Dupont, written from Prangins and dated 11 January 1755.

Detailed Summary:

Collini writes that Dupont’s provost gives him work, and that many letters on this subject have been dictated to him so far, adding that dictated letters have never given him so much pleasure.  He notes that he is really interested in Dupont and would like him to succeed in this matter, stating his belief (which he asks to remain private) that a charming epistle in verse if being prepared for d’Argenson. Collini concludes by sating that Dupont’s philosopher has taken the matter to heart, and that he has never seen him act with as much warmth as he does for his provost.

The MS was sealed using the ‘Tuck, Fold, and Seal’ method. The wax seal is partially extant on f.2v and has caused some damage to the same. There is a small tear to the upper section of the central bifolium fold line, and a small ink blot at the bottom of f.2v.There is a hole running through the lower left-hand corner of both folios, and a small strip of tape has been added to the upper right-hand corner of f.1r.

Two postmarks, one stamped, the other drawn in red pencil, have been added over the address on f.2v. A letter ‘a’ has also been drawn beneath the address on f.2v. There is a minor correction to l.4 of f.1r in the form of a crossing out, and a second in the form of corrected text being written over the top of incorrect text on l.8 of f.1r. A second hand has added a footnote at the bottom of f.1r stating that the verse mentioned in the letter was not published. This note has been linked to the text through the use of a corresponding number.
