The MS is bound with other letters in the collection in calf.

Additional Comments:

The MS was sealed using the ‘Tuck, Fold, and Seal’ method. The wax seal is no longer extant but has caused some damage to f.213v. The paper was also folded to create a left-hand margin on both the recto and verso sides. There is a small, circular stain beneath the address on f.213v likely caused by wax. There are two pairs of pin holes on the right-hand side of the MS.

Decorations:

Undecorated

Additions:

A second hand has added a bibliographical reference to the upper left-hand corner of f.212r. The same hand has also added marginal notes throughout expanding on, or identifying, matters mentioned in the text. These notes are linked to the main text through the use of corresponding symbols. The fourth word of l.15 on f.212r has been crossed out. The final two lines have been added in Voltaire’s hand and read: ‘je vois bien que vous n’avez reçu aucune de mes lettres aux deux ponts. je vous écris de Ponto’.
