Letter from Frederick II of Prussia to Voltaire, written from Wesel and dated 6 September 1740.
Detailed Summary:
Frederick writes that he has a fever and does not think he will be well enough to travel to Antwerp and Brussels as he had planned. He therefore proposes that Voltaire instead joins him at Cleves so that he might have the pleasure of kissing him. He sends his apologies to the marquise that he will not see her in Brussels and adds that he will be at a small place near Cleves on Sunday where he can put Voltaire at ease.
The paper is partially countermarked with the initials ‘NW’ but the lower portion of the letters are missing due to the paper being cut.

Additional Comments:
The pages feature additional horizontal and vertical fold lines. There is a tear in the lower right-hand corner of both leaves that has been repaired with additional paper. There are a number of small holes along the main fold line suggesting that the MS had been bound at one time.
