Klüter was being prosecuted for selling, amongst other works, Lettre de Voltaire au Roi de Prusse, Lettre sur le mémoire raisonné, La verité des faits lettres de M. a M., and Lettres d’un particulier à un des ses amis sur l’invasion de la Saxe. The MS comprises of a list of the writings confiscated from Klüter and printed copies of the following:
Among the correspondence is a copy of a poem by Voltaire titled La Russe à Paris. The poem is dated 22 August 1760.
The correspondence contains writings on political, philosophical, and literary matters, as well as discussions of various figures such as Voltaire, Jean Le Rond d’Alembert, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau.
Also included with the letter is a half-length lithograph portrait of Voltaire by Gutsch Rupp. The portrait depicts Voltaire aged 20 and measures 237 x 144 mm.
Voltaire discusses his approaching death, atheists, and Baruch Spinoza. A loan slip for the letter in included on f.3.
Contained within this dossier is acquisition information for a collection of letters from Frederick II of Prussia to Voltaire, acquired in 1905-1906.
