Voltaire begins by saying that his head is spinning becuase he is sick, adding that he is working no less but maybe not better. He says that he had his blood warmed by Du Tertre [possibly Jean Baptiste François Dutertre employed by Voltaire towards the end of his life in Paris] yesterday. Voltaire ends by saying that d’Argental calms him down, puts balm on his wounds, and offers him consolation.
D’Adhémar notes that the Duchess of Württemberg stopped in Lausanne and was warmly invited to Ferney by Voltaire. He discusses Voltaire’s vitality in the face of illness and a gruelling 12-15 hour work routine. He then turns to Voltaire’s works about ‘Vinde’, the first part of which has been published, and a new story he has written called ‘Le Taureau blanc’ which he gave a copy of to the Duchess, who then traveled on to Lyon.
