Voltaire writes that it has been a long time since they drank together and remarks that Brother Bertier must be a terrible character since he is ‘the only noise in Paris, despite the misery’. Voltaire concludes the letter by saying that he is very ill. Also included in this lot are an autograph enveloped to ‘Monsieur Titiot chez Mr de la Popliniere fermier general’, a postscript by Voltaire’s father, François Aurouet (1708), a portrait, and three autograph letters signed by Gaëtan Duchesne relating to the erection of a bust of Voltaire by Poncet (1891).
