The letter was folded into three before sending and sealed with a sealing wafer. The wafer is partially extant on f.2, with part remaining in the lower left-hand corner of f.2v, and another part remaining in the upper right-hand corner of f.2r. The MS has also been folded in half horizontally (since unfolded). There is some minor foxing and staining throughout, and some ink transference on f.1v.
A brace has been drawn alongside Voltaire’s letter. A long provenance note has been added to the bottom of f.1v and top of f.2r in a second, later hand. This note is signed and dated 1838. The library stamp of Campori has been added to the bottom of f.1v.
