Additional Comments:
The letter was folded in half horizontally (since unfolded). The paper was also folded to create a left-hand margin on both the recto and verso sides. There is a small hole in the middle of the central bifolium fold line, and several small tears to the same that have been repaired with tape.
The final two lines of the letter on f.2r have been added by Voltaire in his own hand. A marginal note has been added by Collini to the left-hand side of f.1r explaining that the ‘Daurant’ mentioned in the letter is Voltaire’s doctor. A provenance note has been added to f.2v in a third hand, explaining that this is a letter from Voltaire to Thieriot dating to 1 April 1766 (a date disputed by Besterman), that two lines are in Voltaire’s hand, and that the letter was published.
