The paper has been folded to create a left-hand margin on both the recto and verso sides. There is some discolouration to the outer edges of the MS, suggesting that it was stored with a smaller document on top. There is a small hole close to the bottom edge of the MS, and a blob of red wax on the right-hand side of f.1v that has caused some damage to the left-hand side of the same. There is an ink blot beneath the wax seal, and the iron gall ink used to write the letter has begun to cause some corrosion to the page. The fourth word of l.8 on f.1r has smudged slightly.
